Ganpatrao Gavit's "Mitwa" is the first Marathi film to portray the psychic phenomenon of Mitwa. It shows how a demon called Kamalnath is sucked into the body of a person by his evil eye, making him commit suicide. But Kamalnath refuses to leave his victim's body and makes him do it again and again, each time killing himself. An exorcist saves our hero Surya (Rajesh Khote), who has an evil eye, from committing suicide through Kamalnath. The movie was one of the biggest hits of 1976.
